A person who teaches Torah to his neighbor’s child may be regarded, according to Scripture, as though the child had been born to him. - Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin 19b
If a person goes looking for property lost by his parent and property lost by his teacher, his teacher’s takes precedence over his parent’s because his parents brought him into the world, but his teacher, who taught him wisdom, brings him into the world to come. - Mishnah, Bava Metzia 2:11
The Samuel and Bernice Shapiro Religious School of Temple Emanu-El is dedicated to preparing our students to live and engage Jewish tradition in an inclusive community of life-long learning. Our program combines study with prayer and celebration for students in grades K-12 as we explore Torah and Jewish culture and values; acquire Hebrew and synagogue skills; experience holidays together, and get busy with a variety of community service projects. Highlights of our program include the Sunday morning family worship service, a high-quality family education program, and our Jewish arts curriculum, which includes instruction in music, cooking, pottery, and creative writing.
